Beef and Salsa Burgers

Why, oh why, has no one shared this clever idea with us before now?!? Everybody loves a good burger, and here is a unique and completely wonderful new way to serve them: topped with salsa. The beauty here is that you can use your favorite tomato-based salsa, be it mild or extra spicy. The burgers are studded with grated onions and carrots which match the sweet tomato in the salsa to perfection. Light up the grill and salsa your next burger!

Beef and Salsa Burgers

20 oz. ground beef (1¼ lbs.)
4 oz. wholemeal breadcrumbs (1½ cups)
1 cup grated carrots
1 small onion, grated
handful parsley leaves, chopped
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
6 wholemeal burger buns
butter, for spreading
small pot of tomato salsa

Heat the grill to medium. In a large bowl, mix together the first six ingredients and season well. Form into 6 patties and place on a baking tray.

Grill the burgers for 5-6 minutes per side, or to your liking. Split the burger buns, brush with butter and toast on the grill.  Place the burgers on the buns and top with salsa to serve.
